Meta shared that it was working on Edits in January after ByteDance-owned CapCut was removed from U.S. app stores when the TikTok ban momentarily went into effect.

Launching a U.S.-specific app could be part of the company's broader plan to comply with a 2024 law requiring ByteDance to divest from TikTok.

The app is Google's attempt to compete with ByteDance's popular CapCut editor.
