One of our favorite Ninja air fryers is 36 percent off right now

15 July 2025 at 14:20

Prime Day might have ended last week, but that doesn't mean the sales are over. Amazon still has discounts on some of our favorite items, including our pick for best dual-zone air fryer.Β

Right now, you can get the Ninja DZ401 Foodi Air Fryer for $160, down from $250. The 36 percent discount actually brings the device to the same as its Prime Day sale price. It's a 10-quart model with a smart cook thermometer. It has six modes, including air fry, reheat and dehydrate. Plus, it warms up so quickly that you barely notice the preheat.Β

The Ninja DZ401 Foodi Air Fryer's biggest achievement: allowing you to cook two different foods in two different settings at the same time. It's not meant for small kitchens, but if you have a lot of counter space and a big family, then it's a great option.

Rivian adds Google Maps features to its navigation app

15 July 2025 at 14:00

Rivian, the American EV manufacturer, is integrating Google Maps into its navigation app. The update should provide Rivian owners with more detailed information about their route, disruptions and places they're passing.Β

These new features include updated traffic data and reroutes if another option turns out to be quicker along your journey. Drivers will also have access to real-time road disruption reports from the Google Maps community. Plus, places of interest should now be available right on the map. Rivian already used Google Maps' information for searching places, but now everything from hours to ratings should show up on the display. The newly available technology also extends to Google Maps' satellite images.

Rivian's navigation app already included features such as range on arrival, charging information and charging stops along your route. The update comes with a new design that Rivian claims has better "glanceability" and "access to information."Β

The company has faced some setbacks and concerns. In February 2024, Rivian laid off 10 percent of its salaried workforce due to a $1.5 billion loss in the fourth quarter of 2023. Then, in October, a report from Bloomberg questioned the safety record of the EV maker's Illinois factory. The report highlighted a number of injuries at the plant, including an amputated finger, a broken skull and vomiting and dizziness after painting without adequate protections.Β

Rivian disputed many of Bloomberg's claims, saying at the time that the publication had "misrepresented the facts," and that "initial citations should not be confused as final citations." Bloomberg reported on 16 initially serious OSHA violations in 21 months, and alleged more wrongdoing, though Rivian recieved only two serious final citations from OSHA over the period in question. A Rivian spokesperson further clarified that the data in the story was two years old at the time of publishing and doesn't represent the current state of the company's plant.

Update, July 15, 7:30PM ET: This story was updated after publish to add context around Rivian's plant safety record and statements from the company.

Grok's AI chatbot now includes companions for you to 'romance'

15 July 2025 at 13:30

Grok, xAi's chatbot most famous for going on an antisemitic spree last week, has now added the ability to perform as a synthetic companion for your enjoyment. Elon Musk announced the new feature, available to paid subscribers, which will take the form of animated characters Ani and Rudy.Β

Both are distinctly not safe for work, with the former operating as a digital waifu for you to, uh, romance. Rudy, on the other hand, is a red panda with a smart mouth who likes to get rude with the people he's speaking to.Β

SuperGrok now has two new companions for you, say hello to Ani and Rudy! pic.twitter.com/SRrV6T0MGT

β€” DogeDesigner (@cb_doge) July 14, 2025

The companions have their own X accounts, because of course they do. Ani's bio states, "Smooth, a little unpredictableβ€”I might dance, tease, or just watch you figure me out. Let’s keep it chill… or not." Meanwhile, Rudy's just says, "The Only Pet in Grok Companion."Β

There also appears to be more AI companions on their way, including one called Chad. The male anime character is listed as "coming soon," alongside another unnamed woman.Β

Quicken Simplifi plans are half off right now

14 July 2025 at 14:15

Budgeting is really hard. Basics like groceries, rent and transportation are expensive enough without all the tempting extras like a nice dinner or new gaming console. It's all too easy to end the month with no idea where all your money went. But, right now, one of our favorite budgeting apps is on sale. An annual subscription to Quicken Simplifi is currently half off, down to $3 monthly rather than $6. Notably, the sum is paid in one go, instead of each month.

Yes, spending money to save money does sound a bit silly in principle, but Quicken Simplifi is our choice for best budget app overall. It offers a sleek, easy-to-use interface that doesn't have much of a learning curve. It's also excellent at tracking regular income and bills, along with refunds. Plus, you can share access to the app with your partner or financial advisor.Β

There are a few cons, though nothing massive. You can't do a free trial β€” though Quicken does seem to have a 30 day cancelation policy to get a refund. You also can't create an account using your Apple or Google ID. Plus, there's no Zillow integration.Β Β

Jack Dorsey's new app tracks your sun exposure

14 July 2025 at 12:33

Another day, another app from Jack Dorsey. The Twitter co-founder has announced an app called Sun Day just one week after releasing the peer-to-peer messaging app Bitchat.Β

While Bitchat is an internet-free app for communicating with friends over Bluetooth, Sun Day is all about, well, the sun. The latest app tracks your UV exposure and how much Vitamin D you get. It does this using a few personal details, including your location. Sun Day also asks you to share what kind of clothing you're wearing, such as "light (shorts & t-shirt)." There's an additional space for you to share your skin type, choosing from one of six options.Β

From there, it shows you the current UV index, high for the day, sunrise, sunset and burn limit β€” or the time you can be outside before your skin starts to burn. You can get your supposed vitamin D intake while outdoors by clicking "track UV exposure."Β

Get a four-pack of Apple AirTags for $65 in this Prime Day deal

11 July 2025 at 12:04

Prime Day this year actually has a bunch of good tech deals to consider, and you can still find most of them today during the last day of the sale. Take, for instance, sales on Apple accessories like the AirTag. Currently, you can get a four-pack of Apple AirTags for $65, down from $99.

A single AirTag is typically $29, so you're getting four of them for not much more than a pair costs. Though, if you really want just one, a single AirTag is also on sale, down to $20 from $29 β€” a 31 percent discount.

Apple AirTags are our pick for best Bluetooth tracker for iPhone users. They're quieter than some other options, but work well within the Find My network. You can also pick up one of the many great Apple AirTag accessories out there to make up for the lack of a key hole.Β

While AirTags are the best choice for Apple fans, other Bluetooth trackers exist and can be just as good for other folks. Here are some additional Bluetooth tracker deals to consider for Prime Day.

The Amazon Echo Spot has been discounted to $45 for Prime Day

10 July 2025 at 13:03

Prime Day 2025 is still going today, and much of our favorite tech is still discounted including the TP-Link Deco AXE5400 WI-Fi mesh router system and the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max. One of the best deals is on the Echo Spot smart alarm clock, which you can pick up for only $45. That's 44 percent off its usual price and a new record-low for the gadget. The deal is available on each of the color options: Black, Glacier White and Ocean Blue, and is currently only available for Prime members.

Amazon launched the new Echo Spot in 2024, five years after it canned an initial iteration. It's not too different than its predecessor, though its front is split between a screen and a speaker. Amazon also got rid of its camera, which made some people uncomfortable for a bedside table device. Of course, it offers Alexa integration so you can use the voice assistant for everything from getting the time to playing music. That includes controlling smart home devices as well, and you can even pick up the Echo Spot bundled with an Amazon Basics smart light bulb for an extra $5.

Elsewhere in the Amazon devices ecosystem, more smart speakers have received discounts. The Echo Pop is 45 percent off and down to $22 for Prime members, and the Echo Show 5 is 33 percent off and down to $60. Neither of those are record-low prices, but they are some of the best discounts we've seen in 2025 so far.

Early Prime Day deals include our favorite mesh Wi-Fi router for a record-low price

27 June 2025 at 13:31

Prime Day will be here before we know it, but you can already save on some of our favorite tech in the lead-up to the shopping event. A practical piece of tech that's down to a great price right now is the TP-Link Deco AXE5400 Wi-Fi mesh router system. The three-pack is 29 percent off and down to $250 right now, which is an all-time-low price.

The TP-Link Deco AXE5400 is our choice for best mesh Wi-Fi system for most people. It debuted in 2023 and scored an 87 in our review thanks to features like its incredible speed β€” arguably the most important measure of a good Wi-Fi system. It's also very reliable.Β

The Wi-Fi system is very user-friendly and works well even in a large home. Plus, its basic security and parental control features come at no extra cost. Our only qualms were minimal like the app is a little rough and the power cables are a bit short.Β

Netflix is removing over 20 games, including Hades and Monument Valley

24 June 2025 at 12:30

Netflix's games arm is struggling. The streamer is removing over 20 games from its library, including popular titles like Hades and all three Monument Valley games. It follows the closure of Netflix's AAA gaming studio in October.

The games will leave Netflix in July, so there's not much time left to play them. Here are all the titles dropping off of the streamer:

  • Battleship

  • Braid, Anniversary Edition

  • Carmen Sandiego

  • CoComelon: Play with JJ

  • Death’s Door

  • Diner Out: Merge Cafe

  • Dumb Ways to Die

  • Ghost Detective

  • Hades (Note: Only available on iOS devices)

  • Katana ZERO

  • LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed

  • Ludo King

  • Monument Valley

  • Monument Valley 2

  • Monument Valley 3

  • Rainbow Six: SMOL

  • Raji: An Ancient Epic

  • SpongeBob: Bubble Pop F.U.N.

  • TED Tumblewords

  • The Case of the Golden Idol

  • The Rise of the Golden Idol

  • Vineyard Valley

While they all leave in July, the last day to play each game varies. For instance, Hades bows out on July 1, while Death's Door is available through the 14th. You can see when your favorite game will depart the streamer on Netflix's mobile app.Β

Netflix has also scaled back on its interactive content. The streamer cut its offerings from 24 to four at the end of last year. Black Mirror's Emmy award winning Bandersnatch was one of the few survivors but left the platform on May 12.Β

UK proposes greater regulation for Google's search practices

24 June 2025 at 12:28

The UK might introduce new regulations for Google. The country's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has proposed designating the company's search services with "strategic market status" (SMS). In doing so, the regulatory body could direct Google to create fairer business rankings on search, for instance.Β

The CMA launched an antitrust investigation into Google Search in January β€”Β its first probe under the UK's Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers (DMCC) Act. Concerns include search advertising costing more than in a competitive market, minimal transparency on ranking search results and Google's vast access to websites and historical searches. There's also the issue of publishers getting fair terms and control over their content's use in search and AI-generated summaries.Β

"Google search has delivered tremendous benefits β€” but our investigation so far suggests there are ways to make these markets more open, competitive and innovative." Sarah Cardell, Chief Executive of the CMA, said in a statement. A final decision on Google's SMS designation will come by October 13.

It would also apply to AI-based search features, but not Gemini AI Assistant β€” though the CMA states this is subject to change.

If the labeling goes ahead then the CMA will likely enact "early priorities" like the following:

  • Requiring choice screens for users to access different search providers

  • Ensuring fair ranking principles for businesses appearing on Google search

  • More transparency and control for publishers whose content appears in search results

  • Portability of consumer search data to support innovation in new products and services

These points stand as a roadmap for how CMA plans to handle any initial designation period for an SMS. "These targeted and proportionate actions would give UK businesses and consumers more choice and control over how they interact with Google’s search services β€” as well as unlocking greater opportunities for innovation across the UK tech sector and broader economy," Cardell stated. The CMA aims to provide additional actions to tackle more complex issues beginning in early 2026.Β

The SMS designation doesn't imply Google has engaged in anti-competitive actions. Parties interested in Google's status can provide their views on the proposal directly to the CMA.Β

Waymo and Uber launch robotaxi service in Atlanta

24 June 2025 at 11:00

Uber and Waymo's robotaxi services are officially available in Atlanta. Now, Uber users who request an UberX, Comfort or Comfort Electric could have Waymo's all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicle pull up for the same cost. Notably, customers will receive a notification ahead of time and can opt-out of having a self-driving vehicle.Β

At the same time, anyone who wants the experience can increase their chances by updating their ride preferences. "Atlantans are now able to experience the same safety, comfort, and convenience of Waymo’s fully autonomous driving technology that millions of people around the US β€” from San Francisco to Austin β€” currently have the access to," Nicole Gavel, Head of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at Waymo, said in a statement.Β

The launch is a long time coming as Waymo first started tests in Atlanta back in January 2018. Then, last September, the company announced its services would arrive to Georgia's capital city in "early 2025." If you can count the first half of the year as "early" then Waymo is making it just under the wire.Β Β

Uber also provided an update on its Waymo fleet in Austin β€” launched in March. It now has 100 Waymo vehicles available in the city, with more coming. Uber claims that customers have given the rides in self-driving cars an average rating of 4.9 stars. However, there's new competition in town, as Tesla launched its own robotaxi service on Sunday, June 22.Β

Get a free $30 Amazon gift card when you buy the new Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones

23 June 2025 at 12:01

Noise-cancelling headphones are a must-have for anyone who travels often and wants to drown out airplane noise, commuters who want some peace and quiet amongst the crowds and anyone else looking to dull the daily chaos of life. Sony's 1000X line has had our favorite noise-cancelling headphones for a long time, and it remains the same now with the latest edition to that family. Sony released the WH-1000XM6 edition of its wireless noise canceling headphones in May, and really the only downside about them is their new, higher price tag.

But if you're on the market for a new pair of cans right now, Amazon will throw you a bone if you opt for the XM6. Right now, you can get the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones plus a free $30 Amazon gift card for $448. While you're not saving much on the price of the headphones (a whopping $2), you're getting a $30 gift card for free on top of it, which you can use towards anything else you want to buy on Amazon.

Sony released the WH-1000XM6 headphones three years after their predecessor, but the new model quickly proved to be worth the wait. We gave the M6s a 94 in our review thanks to features like improved sound and better active noise cancelation. One of the best things about this model compared to the M5s is the return to a folding design β€” I love my M5s but it's very annoying that they don't shrink at all. The M6s are also very comfy and have a wider headband for easy wear.Β

Samsung SmartTag 2 trackers are still available for 48 percent off for Prime Day

10 July 2025 at 12:40

We live in a world filled with so much stuff. There's keys, phones, wallets β€” the list goes on of things that you need to hold on to every day. With this in mind, it's often a good idea to get a Bluetooth tracker for all the important things.

Luckily, right now you can still pick up a Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 for a record-low price thanks to continuing Prime Day deals. Our pick as the best Bluetooth tracker for Samsung devices is down to $15.50 from $30 β€” a 48 percent discount. The only catch is that just the white model has such a steep markdown. If you want to pick up a bunch of trackers then check out the four-pack option, on sale for $62, down from $100.

The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 is a solid purchase due to features like being IP67-rated water- and dust-resistant, a sizeable keychain hoop and over 16 months of battery life. It also emits a ring louder than competitors like the AirTag or Tile. The only snag is that you must have a Samsung device in order to use it.Β
